Together, we are making a difference in the lives of our Youth!

We believe in the 9 “F’s” of Youth Ministry:

·         FUN:

o   Activities have to be fun… it is the fun that will keep the youth coming!

o   Faith can be fun!

·         Faith:

o   Faith IS included in all activities

o   Prayer is important… before, during and after all events and activities.

·         Focus :

o   We set goals and objectives

o   We make sure the youth are there for a reason… and they know what is happening.

o   Every activity has a purpose and a reason.

·         Fellowship and Friendship:

o   We go out of our way to invite everyone!

o   We target specific youth that we know will influence other young people.

o   We feel that it is important to create programs that promote relationships between peers in different social circles, groups, and/or grades.

o   Role modeling is important… youth should always have older people to look up to and younger kids to be a role models for.

o   We try to build a sense of team… we spend time on developing respect, trust and cooperation within your group.

·         Flexibility:

o   We are all busy… including youth.  No one should have to choose youth ministry activities over other things… we have to be willing to meet the youth where they are, and accept what they can offer.

o   We offer flexible times and locations… activities should happen when youth can attend, and in places were youth hang out.

·         Fearlessness:

o   We take risks… we are always trying something new!

o   We try to keep it exciting!

o   We build trust… the youth have to trust us, each other, and themselves…

o   We must also do the same… we must trust the youth, each other, and ourselves.

·         Fostering Skills :

o   FOSTERING SKILLS is a vital step in youth ministry.

o   Specific areas of skill development include leadership, Religious faith skills, moral living skills and emotional awareness skills.

o   Each of the four areas of growth (leadership, religious faith, moral living and emotional awareness) includes many skills.  In our area of youth ministry, we have focused on two skills in each area.

§  The structure of the program components allows for the development of leadership skills within our youth.

§  For religious faith, we focus on developing youth’s ability to share faith experiences (through sharing testimonials) and to participate in communal worship by being involved in youth Mass.

§  The moral living skills that we focus on are how to handle sexual and social pressure (by research, writing and acting shows on the Positive Choices Tour) and how to distinguish right from wrong (again, using the Positive Choices Tour as an instrument to explore ideas and strategies).

§  In the final area, emotional awareness, we highlight the skills of staying hopeful and handling fear which are mostly taught through one-on-one faith mentorship.

·         Finding Excellence :

o   It should always be about the youth… we let them be showcased and featured… but at the same time, we are always there for them if they need our help.

o   Youth talking to youth makes a greater impact

o   We try to find and bring out the talent of young people.

o   We try to create pride… in our performance, or our activity.

·         Food:

o   Food breaks down barriers!

o   If there is food… teens will come!

o   Jesus did most of his important teaching around meals with his followers... so can we

o   Never underestimate the power of pizza and French-vanilla coffee creamers!
